Ever since pictures of Jean Harlow flooded the silent screen, platinum blonde has been one of the top, fashionable hair colours for women. One of the reasons this shade has been so popular over the years is because of the effect it can have on some grown men.

According to popular myths and songs, blondes have more fun and ‘gentlemen prefer blondes’, especially if they come in the shape of Marilyn Monroe. Blonde hair has been so popular that those women who have naturally dark or red hair will torture themselves with peroxide and highlighting caps to achieve fairer locks.

While hair colour does go through phases, and this season, red from strawberry blond to the richest copper is supposedly fashionable, there will always be those diehard fans of blonde hair. There are different shades of blonde from platinum to dark blonde.

Some women who don’t have the courage to turn their dark locks completely blonde will have blonde highlights or streaks as they are often called. Highlighting is a long and painful process as the hairdresser has to pull locks of hair through pinprick holes on a rubber head cover and put the peroxide only on those locks.
