Ideas to Save Money on Your Bills
Saving on your Utility Bills this winter will be vital to most families who are faced with a low income. The necessity of heat and electricity is almost like that of the need for food and water. It is the most vital part of the family life. You can start with electricity there are many things that you can turn off that you do not need. For instance do not leave lights on in rooms that are not being used. Turn off televisions, radios, CD Players, any electrical device that is no longer in use. There is no need to play two televisions if everyone in the family watches the same show. The newer light bulbs are much more economical and in some places are given free by the electric companies.
Your heating bill can become a very high expense. If you do not have the means to weatherize your home, check with the community programs to see if you can get it done for free. There are different plastics offered at places like Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Menards where you can actually put over the windows on the inside of your home to help weatherize your home. When you cover over some of the windows in your homes you will keep it warmer and save on the heating bills.
A fun project for you and your children is to take news papers and roll them up tight, and then put large old socks over top of them. You can decorate the socks with buttons and markers to make them look like animals, vegetables, etc. Then sew up the stuffed socks and place them along window cells this is a protective measure that will keep drafts from coming in through the windows and doors. It is a fun project as well!
Finally, make sure that you do full loads of laundry, and cut back on the amount of detergent that you use in order to save on the water bill, the amount of electricity that you use, and the amount of gas to warm the hot water heater. This is one of the major expenses that families run up without realizing it. Laundry and doing dishes can become very costly if you are not frugal about how you do it.
